Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy Webinar Series
This training serves as a comprehensive introduction to Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy (MERIT), designed to facilitate your learning and competency development. It offers a structured approach to understanding and implementing MERIT, combining theoretical foundations with practical insights from Prof. Paul Lysaker, who was the impetus for responding to the needs of people with severe mental illness and was the major figure in the development of the theory and practice, which he came to call MERIT. There is an accompanying workbook, available under the Materials Tab in Video 1, which is organised into four key sections:
- MERIT Core Concepts: Introducing fundamental principles
- MERIT Assumptions for Therapists: Outlining essential mindsets
- MERIT Elements and Techniques: Exploring practical tools
- Integrating MERIT Elements: Applying concepts holistically
This introductory guide provides a framework for developing a comprehensive understanding of MERIT’s foundational principles. It draws from academic research and the “In Conversation with Paul Lysaker” MERIT video series. Each module is designed to enhance understanding and practical application of MERIT in clinical contexts, supporting your professional development and ability to implement this innovative therapeutic approach effectively.
To gain the best benefit from this training, read through each module and view the associated video featuring Prof. Paul Lysaker, who provides in-depth insights and practical guidance. Each module is designed to build upon the previous one, helping you progressively develop your competency in MERIT. Once you have a grounding in the core concepts of MERIT, continue to learn the assumptions, elements, and techniques. Included with the theoretical explanations and videos, you will find reflective activities aimed at developing your clinical skills.
