SAFE-Insight: Intervention Strategies for Working with Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a serious public health problem responsible for significant psychological, financial and social costs. At its extreme, domestic violence results in loss of lives. While treatment approaches have evolved over time, research into therapeutic effectiveness often shows inconsistent results irrespective of therapeutic orientation. The capacity to understand one’s own mental states as subjective and distinct from others is an essential factor in the regulation of mental states and physiological arousal often associated with the perpetration of domestic violence.Â
Deficits in metacognitive capacity are associated with high arousal states and acts of violence in clinical populations. Incorporating metacognition as part of a therapeutic intervention provides an opportunity to enhance contemporary approaches in the treatment of men who perpetrate domestic violence.Â
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Registrar Program - Supervision for Registrars
The focus of this Psychodynamic Psychology Registrar Program (PPPR) is to support registrars advancing their clinical competencies through facilitating learning about unconscious and conscious processes. These processes, in the context of the patient's milieu, may be associated with the patient's symptomatology and psychological organisation. An understanding of the impact of these factors on the therapy process will be highlighted throughout the program.Â
The PPRP is a unique registrar program, preparing registrars to further their development as clinical or counselling psychologists and psychodynamic-informed psychotherapists.  Â
