Comprehensive Training for Emerging Psychologists

Our Psychodynamic Registrar Program offers a comprehensive supervision framework designed to lead to Areas of Practice Endorsement by the Psychology Board of Australia in clinical and/or counselling psychology. This program aims to equip registrars with advanced-level skills grounded in a relational psychodynamic framework, facilitating a personally transformative experience that empowers clinicians to effectively engage with individuals presenting complex mental health issues and personality vulnerabilities.

Will This Program Suit You

The program is tailored for registrars eager to deepen their knowledge and training in relational psychodynamic principles and practices. Participants will gain invaluable insights into how unconscious and conscious processes impact therapy, focusing on enhancing patient self-understanding and the dynamics of their relationships.

Focus on Clinical Competence

The focus of the Psychodynamic Psychology Registrar Program (PPPR) is to advance registrars' clinical competencies through an exploration of unconscious and conscious processes in relation to patients' experiences. This unique program prepares registrars to evolve as clinical or counselling psychologists and psychodynamic-informed psychotherapists.

Transformative Outcomes

By its conclusion, registrars will be equipped to work with patients beyond mere symptomatology, fostering self-understanding and a cohesive sense of self. The program emphasises contemporary psychodynamic theory, ensuring an informed, evidence-based practice that integrates collaborative learning around early experiences, early adversities, and unconscious dynamics in understanding complex personal and relational issues.

Unique Features of This Program

Integrated Learning Approach

The program provides an integrated learning approach through individual supervision, a structured range of professional development seminars, and opportunities for group supervision. Unlike traditional supervisory programs that focus solely on symptom reduction, this program encourages registrars to develop their psychodynamic skills, enhancing self-understanding as a mechanism for change.

Skill Development

Registrars will learn to help individuals interpret their presenting problems by recognising how experiences influence current behaviours, and develop competencies in psychodynamic formulation and treatment planning. The therapeutic relationship's significance in facilitating change will be a focal point, with insights into interpersonal neurobiology and attachment theory informing contemporary practice.

Components of the Program

The program adheres to the Psychology Board of Australia’s Registrar Requirements, providing clinical supervision and monthly reading groups/workshops. Tailored learning contracts will cover generic therapeutic competencies, basic dynamic competencies, specific dynamic techniques, and adaptations for complex mental health issues.

Engagement in Key Areas

During your registrar program, you will engage in:

Core clinical practice encompassing psychological assessment, formulation, and psychotherapy, complemented by skills in communication, record-keeping, consultation, and program development.
